Services / Port lighting

Port lighting.
Quay, cargo handling and crane.

When ships are unloaded after dark, the lighting has to suit the work: bright enough on the quay and handling area, low in glare towards the water and robust in continuous operation. TRiALED supplies LED lighting for inland ports, cargo handling companies and steel logistics directly from the manufacturer, with lighting calculations to standard and all documents for planners and tenders.

Cargo handling & crane

Light right into the ship's hull.

The Series 12 floodlight for cargo handling and loading areas and crane lighting: up to 170 lm/W, IP66, IK10, 20° or 40° optics, dimmable via 0–10 V.

Paths & access roads

Safely across the site.

The Series 16 street light for site roads, access roads and car parks at the port: up to 167 lm/W, IP66, IK08, 10 kV surge protection, −40 to +60 °C.

Water side

Light on the area, not on the water.

Under Section 34(4) of the German Federal Waterways Act, ship masters must not be obstructed by glare or reflections. That is why we calculate tilt and optics with the quay edge, the water and the crane operator's position in mind.

Design & tender

Calculated to standard.

Lighting calculation with DIALux to ASR A3.4 and DIN EN 12464-2. Data sheets and LDT light files per series for planners, electrical contractors and tenders.

Reference

Carl Spaeter Südwest in Karlsruhe.

The site includes halls, offices and port areas. The crane lighting had to reach into the ship's hull, and our Series 12 floodlight was used for this. For the entire site with LED and light management, the project report gives total savings of 74 % and payback in 23.6 months.

If masts and cables are in good condition, you can often replace just the luminaires. That saves foundations and civil works. Masts should be checked structurally first. Foundations, earthworks, cable laying and erecting the masts are handled by a specialist contractor of your choice.

What we supply port lighting for

  • Inland ports and cargo handling companies on canals and rivers
  • Quays and cargo handling areas, loading zones
  • Crane lighting for loading and unloading ships
  • Outdoor storage areas and halls at the port
  • Site roads, access roads, gates and car parks
  • Lock areas and pedestrian paths
Seaports and high masts

We check this case by case.

Salt air places higher demands on housings and fixings, and high masts of 25 to 35 m need their own design. Send us the location and mast height: we will tell you openly in advance whether our luminaires fit your project.

Frequently asked questions

Briefly answered.

Who supplies LED lighting for inland ports and cargo handling areas?

As a manufacturer, TRiALED supplies LED floodlights, street lights and masts from a single source, with lighting calculations to ASR A3.4 and DIN EN 12464-2. Foundations and civil works are handled by a specialist contractor of your choice.

How bright must a cargo handling area in a port be?

Under the German ASR A3.4, at least 30 lx. For other areas such as quays, locks and passenger areas, our guide to lux levels in ports shows the guide values.

How is shipping protected from glare?

With floodlights at a shallow tilt, suitable optics and a lighting calculation that takes the quay edge and the water side into account. On German federal waterways, the design should be discussed early with the responsible Waterways and Shipping Office.

Does TRiALED also supply seaports and high masts?

We check that case by case, because salt air and high masts place special demands on the luminaires. We will tell you openly in advance whether they fit your project.

Can existing masts be reused?

Often, yes. If masts and cables are in good condition, replacing the luminaires is frequently enough. The masts should be checked structurally first.
