Lighting for hotels and hospitality.
Where it counts – front of house and behind the scenes.

In a hotel, the lights are almost always on in corridors, stairwells, kitchens, underground car parks and the car park. That is exactly where the greatest savings potential lies. On top of that comes safety lighting, which is mandatory in accommodation buildings above a certain size.

At a glance
  • Corridors, stairwells and underground car parks in hotels are often lit around the clock
  • For kitchens, DIN EN 12464-1 typically specifies 500 lx
  • Larger accommodation premises need safety lighting under state law
  • Presence control saves even more in little-used corridors and ancillary rooms

Saving behind the scenes

Safety lighting in accommodation premises

Above a certain size, accommodation buildings fall under the German accommodation building regulations (state law) of the respective federal state. As a rule, these require safety lighting for escape routes, exits and exit signs. While a hotel is operating, monthly testing is time-consuming – the Series 19 luminaires test themselves and document the result via app.

Frequently asked questions

Where does LED save the most in a hotel?

In corridors, stairwells, underground car parks and car parks, because the lights there are often on around the clock. Presence control saves even more.

Does a hotel need emergency lighting?

Under the German accommodation building regulations (state law), larger accommodation buildings generally require safety lighting for escape routes and exits. Exactly what applies is set out in the building permit and fire safety concept.

How many lux does a hotel kitchen need?

DIN EN 12464-1 typically specifies 500 lx for kitchens. Because of moisture and cleaning, luminaires with a high IP rating are advisable.
