How the LED savings calculator works out your savings potential
Annual consumption is calculated from the estimated number of luminaires, the typical system wattage per type of luminaire and the operating hours. The energy saving is multiplied directly by the chosen electricity price. Usage pattern, employees per shift and existing lighting controls refine the sensor potential. The result is a transparent model value, not a binding quotation.
Annual consumption = number of luminaires × wattage in kW × operating hours per year
Example: LED retrofit of a production hall
100 luminaires with 150 watts consume 60,000 kWh per year at 4,000 operating hours. 100 LED luminaires with 80 watts consume 32,000 kWh. At €0.25 per kWh this corresponds to €7,000, or a possible annual saving of around 47 per cent.
Questions about the LED savings calculator
How are the savings from LED lighting calculated?
The calculator compares the annual consumption of the existing lighting with the expected consumption of the LED solution. It is based on the number of luminaires or the lit area, the connected load and the annual operating hours. The difference is the energy saving in kWh. Multiplied by the electricity price, this gives the possible annual cost saving.
How accurate is the result of the LED savings calculator?
The result is a modelled first estimate, not a binding quotation. The calculator uses your selections together with TRiALED experience values for building use, existing lighting and floor area. Actual figures depend on factors such as the existing luminaires, lighting level, mode of operation, installation conditions and your real electricity price.
Which wattage should be used for old luminaires?
For an exact individual calculation, use the actual connected load of the complete luminaire. For fluorescent or discharge lamps this includes the consumption of the ballast. The TRiALED quick calculator instead asks for the type of existing lighting and uses a typical system value per luminaire.
How are the savings from sensors calculated?
The calculator typically assumes a 50 per cent saving on the remaining LED consumption. If the LED installation needs 50 kWh, for example, 25 kWh are modelled with sensors. Staff density, usage pattern and existing controls adjust this guide value moderately.
Which buildings is the calculator suitable for?
The calculator is designed for commercial buildings, in particular industrial and production halls, logistics and storage areas, workshops, offices, administrative buildings and retail spaces. For special uses it gives a first orientation; a reliable design requires a site survey and lighting design.
